Wasp (2003, UK) dir. Andrea Arnold

★★★★★

An intimate rendering of a young mother on the brink of self-destruction. The narrative is convincingly unfolded by means of a detailed, authentic screenplay. It does a masterful job of warming us to the characters and capturing the intensity of the mother's dilemma. The camerawork is too messy at times, and the pacing could be tighter. However, as a whole this film is dynamite; emotional and provocative.
